Formed in 2005, West Philly's Beaver Avenue counts Gavin Hecker (guitar and vocals) and Aaron Radder (keyboards and backing vocals), as its permanent members. Their
non-conventional approach to music is punctuated by a variety in styles and jams that
reveal the playful
heart and twisted soul of the band.
In performance, the boys use the magic of their studio recordings--manipulated live
through a laptop computer--to provide an ensemble sound and feel that's beyond the scope of the average
duo. Radder brings his mastery of a stack of keyboards and
synths to bear when Beaver Avenue takes the stage, while Gavin rules a small village of effects that conjure unique instrumental
and vocal texture for each song.
Through their onstage chemistry and attention-deficit-defying (mostly
Hecker-penned) repertoire, the band has developed a small cult-like following in the various cities,
college towns and desert hideaways along the
route of its May 2007 national tour. The band received press in Telluride and
Las Vegas along the way, while gaining attention at home in the Philadelphia original music
scene.
